The Role of the Workforce Development Board

The local Workforce Development Board has the key role of providing direction on local strategic workforce issues, identifying local needs and developing strategies to address those needs. The local board is responsible for administering the Title 1 program of the Workforce Investment Act and the Welfare to Work program. The local board is appointed by the County Board at the recommendation of the Local Elected Official/Designee. The board essentially is responsible to:

  • Develop the yearly Workforce Investment Act Plan
  • Select the One-Stop Operator.
  • Determine conditions to allow local board to provide core and intensive services, and determine the potential need to request waivers from the Governor to provide training services.
  • Appoint youth council along with the local elected officials
